Dining Table Size Guide

Bespoke

Like all our product range, we make our dining tables to order and are always happy to work with bespoke dimensions to bring your ideas to life. Our team is on hand to offer advice on the sizing and design that will work best for your project, however it’s wise for you to consider how it will fit in the space you planned.

Supporting Framework

Once you begin your search for the perfect table, the finer details need to be considered. For example, it’s helpful to notice how dining table’s legs might affect its seating capacity. On some occasions, you may need to plan your seating arrangements to avoid placing anyone in line with a table leg, which could limit the number of people who can be accommodated. To avoid this, we offer a few designs such as our Dalton and Ovington dining tables which have one main base in the centre of the table. This maximises the capacity of the dining table and allows more flexibility in your seating arrangements with our two different sizes- fitting 4-6 people, or 6-8 people. On the other hand, for everyday use, our standard 4-legged designs are great for practicality and flexibility whilst also giving a clean and sophisticated finish to your dining room.

Rectangular tables

A rectangle is the traditional format for a dining table. It’s simple and straightforward, making it easy to work out which size is best for you. Taking a typical rectangular table and transforming it into something unique and more of a centre piece is something we can offer with our designs. For example, the Whitley dining table consists of a striking base with the legs of the table crossing centrally before widening out to provide not only a strong and stable foundation for the table but also adding a contemporary aesthetic to the overall look.

Round tables

The benefits of round dining tables are that they are the most space saving design due to the great adaptability of place settings. Therefore, when using this style dining table, it has a more intimate feeling as you are all sat closer despite still applying the rule of roughly 400mm per head (depending on preference). For example, our Dalton dining table is great for social events as well as day to day dining. The base creates a sense of openness which is great for those smaller rooms to avoid feeling cramped.

Measurements

Our standard rectangular range offers a width of 1000mm as it allows for centre pieces as well as sharing platters to fit comfortably whilst prioritising the functional use. However, width can be a matter of personal preference- all depending on whether you prefer a more intimate, closer seating or a more spacious seating. When buying from our rectangular tables standard range, we typically suggest a length of 1600mm for 4-6 people and 1900mm for 6-8 people. With our round tables we suggest a 1200mm radius for 4-6 people and a 1600mm radius for 6-8 people. Our tables come at a standard height of 720mm, however this can be adjusted with bespoke orders as your choice of dining chairs may affect your desired height (contact the team to find out more). The beauty of creating a bespoke piece is that it can be adapted to your own requirements where the possibilities really are endless.

Chairs

To maximise capacity of your dining table, its key to consider the style of seating used. A more limiting option would be armchairs as they take up more space and so would accommodate less people around the table. They do, however, provide a more formal look and may be a more comfortable choice so this depends heavily on the intended use. A more size conscious option would be chairs without arms or even benches- these are great for squeezing an extra person in while setting a more relaxed tone.
